I hooked up the Ooma is about 10 minutes. I paid for the premium service and ported my phone number to Ooma. I no longer pay $52 a month for phone service. The Ooma Premium service cost me $9.99 per month and the porting charge was waived. So I'm saving about $40 per month. It won't take long to recoup the price of the Ooma unit. I didn't tell anybody in my family I switched from a traditional land line to Ooma. They are dialing the same old number so they don't know the difference. Nobody has even noticed so I'm guessing the sound quality on their end is the same. It's good on my end. This is a win win situation.

Although the instructions are very simple to follow, the very first set-up took a while. It almost ran (wildly blinking) for 90min, but I was happy to get a life person when I called customer service. Since then, we had a couple of internet outages, and it automatically restarts the set-up when the line comes back and is done in less than 10min.
The dial tone is something to get used to, but aside from that, we are very happy with the device and feel we get value for the money. For international calls, we had to pre-pay an account with ooma (not sure if post-pay is also available), but we have not used it much yet. I am giving it 4.7 stars.

I have had the ooma Telo for about a month. It is very reliable and the calls are very clear. The support service is quick and efficient. Ooma did not have a local number for my calling area when I first installed, but they found me one in a few days. I am very impressed with the product and the service.

The Ooma phone system turned out to be everything we expected. Very easy to setup, simple interaction to port our number, and chrystal clear voice quality. I've already recommended to friends who have joined the bandwagon. No problems what so ever (yet?!)

I have been an Oooma hub subscriber for quite some time. My review is basically going to compare the Hub device to the new Telo. That said, I believe the Telo to be a step down at this point in time for Ooma. Let me explain why: When I was using my hub with three scouts, I had no problems with voice quality, or the quality of the device itself. It seemed to be built sturdy and although a bit bulky, it worked very well. I loved the fact that the scouts gave you a second line along with an answering machine in each room. I also had this hooked up to my Verizon land line for use in case of a power outage. I kept my land line for use with my home alarm system as well. I looked at the Telo as an upgrade that would provide better sound and even more services as they become available since it's upgradeable. Although this may be true, right now, what I am experiencing is the opposite. With the Telo, you lose the scouts. Being a premiere customer, I lost out on the scout's service of a second line and voice mail access in several rooms. The cordless headsets that are now being sold are supposed to solve this problem.

The issues I am having with the Telo include the following: pulsating and buzzing noise on the phone line; very loose connection where the ac adapter plugs into the Telo. I also find that although nice looking, the build quality seems cheaper than the hub. Seems to be another product out of China with build quality issues. Now I may have gotten a defective unit, but reading through the Ooma forums, it seems like a problem for many others as well. I emailed Ooma about the loose ac adapter but shortly after found out that the problem appears to be how the main board inside of the Telo is seated against the Telo chassis. The main board is loose and not firmly attached, such that when I insert the power adapter the main board moves inward. That movement is just enough to prevent the power adapter from making good contact and locking in securely. I am trying to get an RMA from Ooma as I write this. Hopefully, this will resolve the pulsating buzzing noise I get during conversations.

Without the additional cordless handsets, you will lose the services that the scouts used to offer. So, I ordered four cordless handsets. As I write this, Ooma will only allow you to activate one of them. Something to do with pin codes and customer security. I find the cordless handsets to also have a `cheap, made in China' feel. The handset does not light up when you receive a call while on the phone so you cannot see the caller ID. You will find many bug issues with the headsets as well if you go to the ooma fourms - [...]

Now I am sure that many of these bugs and issues will resolve over time. But as of now, I would go back to my hub unit and wait for Ooma to get their act together. For me, the Telo and the handsets are a step back for Ooma. I used to love their service but Telo has me re-thinking. For those on the fence, stay with the hub or wait until these issues are resolved. Do your research on the web before purchasing and make the decision for yourself.
