I received it and the computer recognizes it, but haven't had to use it yet. It would be more convenient if the USB plug were connected with a short cable to the modem itself, but that type is more expensive, and since I expect to rarely use it, this model should be fine.

Years ago I had bought an external modem for a laptop who's modem had bit the dust.
A couple laptops later, I bought my tiny notebook with no modem at all. I brought the chunky ol external modem out of the closet and couldn't find any drivers much less remember who made it or the model.
So I bought this little gem. It's cheaper than my old external was and about 1/5 the size. I plugged it into my notebook (Windows 7) and it immediately installed the drivers on it's own, didn't even break the disk out of it's package, and then I dialed up. That easy.
The only thing that would have made it easier would've been if it had jumped out of the box and plugged itself in =)

I actually bought this for a computer that is quite obsolete. It did not work there, but I plugged it into my netbook, and it worked quite well to send and receive faxes; I can't imagine needing voice mail capability on a land line when I am traveling, but one never knows, and it was inexpensive enough that just having a modem on the road is valuable enough.

Recently purchased a new PC for work as our old one crashed. Didn't even think to check to see if it had a pre-installed modem - which it didn't! Seems most new desktops are wired with ethernet, but modems aren't as standard as they once were. This external modem was a breeze to install (USB port) and works great. We have a dial-up ISP with accelerated service (a tad faster than our old standard dial-up)and are as satisfied as one can be with dial-up. The TRENDnet saved us the bother of having to install an internal modem, and it can easily and quickly be transferred to another computer. We're happy with this purchase.

Drivers on the CD and Manufactures website did not work with Vista 64bit, (not tested with other OS's) Had to actually bring the device back to my house. Connect the laptop via my connection to get on windows update which loaded working drivers. Its on the bulky side, and blocked access to AC plug on the side of a Dell inspiron Laptop. If you have USB ports on top of one another rather then side by side, its recommended you use this modem in the Top port. The design on the housing would block access to said port, if the modem was plugged into the lower one.
Now that I know how to get them setup and working, I've purchased 2 of them for customers, . Aside from having to connect to Windows update to get working drivers (vista 64 as least) It was able to connect and function with minimal setup. It's cheap enough to justify the minor setup problems.
