The local game is amazing, great graphics, and the fun fast Street Fighter gameplay that we all love. The problems start when you go online. Unless you're ready to study the millisecond timing of moves, combos, counters, and weaknesses of every player, then don't bother, because there are too many people out there with waaaay too much time on their hands who will kill you every time and suck all of the fun out of the game.

Prepare to have sore thumbs, 'cause Street Fighter is back.

The series is popular for a reason, it's just plain fun to play. The special attacks are relatively simple to pull off, and the characters are all extremely well balanced, so no fighter has any innate advantages over the others. Winning is based purely on the skill of the player rather than the character they chose. There's an nice roster of characters to choose from, so it's fairly easy to pick your poison and get down to playing, especially since most characters have more or less the same moves they always did.

Graphically, the game is a wonder to behold. Capcom did an amazing job bringing the animated characters into 3D. Everyone looks just how you imagined they would, and the detail involved is great. Even the backgrouds are filled with motion. Likewise, the soundtrack is also good, updating some old favorites and throwing in some new songs to boot.

The new characters add some flair to the game, and the animated opening and ending cinemas for each character, while not very long or detailed, give a little more insight into the storyline than usual. If you pay attention, the stories coincide, giving the game a united storyline. In all, Street Fighter IV is simply an incredible game.

However, the game does have it's flaws.

Street Fighter IV is not kind to the casual gamer. I've played every Street Fighter since Street Fighter 2 on Super Nintendo, so I'd like to think I'm a decent player. I popped in the game, picked Ken, and played the game on Medium difficulty. And the computer won. Over and over again. Even on the easiest difficulty setting available, the computer can be merciless. You'll be winning sometimes and other times you'll hit a stage and the difficulty will spike. Suddenly you can't beat this one opponent no matter how hard you try. After about dozen losses, you finally get lucky and win. Then you reach the final boss, and you probably know already that true to form, he's a cheap little sucker.

The focus of the game has also changed from easy-to-create combos to the new focus attack system. Theoretically, one can string together long combos by cancelling moves with focus attacks and then dashing to do another move. Challenge mode offers Trials meant to teach the player to use this system, but the combos it calls for can be all but impossible to do for those of us who aren't pros. Be prepared to spend a very, very long time practicing. That means sore thumbs and cramped hands for the casual gamer.

In all this is an excellent game, one any Street Fighter fan should own. The difficulty of the computer and the complexity of the combos are a bit tedious, but with a lot of practice you should be fine. Besides, I always had the most fun playing Street Fighter with my friends, and I'm sure this game will be no different. On another note, Super Street Fighter IV, an update to the game with new content, is going to be released soon. You might prefer to get that version when it releases.

Great Fighting Game. Eaisly accessible and playable. Great for first time players

and for experienced ones as well. Graphics are excellent and controlls very

responsive. Would recommend this game for both children and young adults.

Excellent for fans of the series.

Presentation of game great and menus eaisy to use. Many fun characters in game to

appeal to everyone. Game will also appeal to fans of Japanese anime as there are

many in game movies in anime style.

Many times I have bought fighting games and became frustrated with difficulty

level. But this game has many difficulty levels to choose from so you can play at

your skill level and enjoy the game. Excellent balance between challenging and fun

    to play.

This game is a ton of fun. However, should you want to play with the extra characters in the upcoming, revamped Super Street Fighter IV, you might want to think about holding off on your purchase for a while. Super will NOT be a DLC add-on but a new disc-based version, so you'll have to re-buy the game to get Super. Further, Super will probably launch at below the standard $59.99. Food for thought....Fight!!
