This camera/video is excellent!! I bought it to take on our ski trip because it combined camera, video and waterproofing. It was perfect! The capability of snapping stills during videos was fantastic. The picture quality was great!! The price is extremely reasonable considering the functions and portability. I have been using this camera over six months and it is great. I haven't had the opportunity to film underwater, yet; I have read that you have to make sure the camera is properly sealed and locked before getting it wet.
I didn't give it 5 stars because of misc minor issues...awkward hold, no viewfinder and in bright sunlight the LCD is difficult to see image, menu is a bit of a pain...although, I have been figuring out things on an as needed basis and not reading the manual for the best procedure (perhaps this is my own issue).

This is a great little camera. The only problem we had was that the battery compartment didnt seal so 5 minutes into our swim it quit. Ruined the camera and the battery. Amazons great customer service got me another one shipped out the next day in time for our next snorkle trip. YEAH Amazon!!!!!!! The 4 minutes of video I was able to get was great. Ill update this review after our dive today.

nice portable unit. the menus are confusing and moving between menus - from deleting a file back to an operational mode requires a reboot ... if there's a way to get there i can't find it in the menus. Battery life seems short to me. in bright sunlight the display monitor easily washes out and is difficult to see. I don't plan to take it in the water & 'test' waterproofing - that was something nice to have if caught in the rain or other accident. Windows media player can't always open and play video files from this unit, but Real Player seems to handle them all easily. mostly satisfied with it.

The camera is basically an upgrade of the E1.
I originally purchased the E1 3 years ago for a snorkeling vacation. The video and jpegs were superb. Both the E2 and E1 are daytime cameras. They perform best in bright light and sunshine. If you plan to use it indoors for either still or video you should look elsewhere.
The E2 has a 60 frame per second HR feature whereas the E1 only has 15fps. The E2 performs very well in brightly lit situations in both Jpeg and video. The jpegs are razor sharp .I was happy with the video quality too.
The flash on both E1 and E2 function poorly. They only work well as a fill flash when the lighting is outdoors during the daytime. I bought the E2 for its waterproof capabilities. I recently test drove the Flip Video Ultra HD and was blown away by its quality during the day and night. The camera has a waterproof case that must be purchased separately.
Check out the Olympus and Pentax waterproof cameras before making a commitment to Sanyo.

I purchased one of these cameras 3 weeks ahead in preparation for my son's two year birthday party. While I did not get it through Amazon (my mistake, as it was far cheaper here), it promptly arrived within two days.
Upon opening and reading the manual first, I proceeded to plug in the battery carefully following the instructions. According to the manual, I should see the charger's red light go out when the battery is fully charged. Several hours later the red light was still on (it should have gone out no more than 2 hours after an initial charge) so I gave it some more time. After 5 hours, I decided to let the thing charge overnight.
I wake up and the light is STILL on, so I called the vendor from where I purchased it from. They said that this was a warranty issue and they are simply a 3rd party vendor but asked me if I either wanted to return it, or suggested that I call Sanyo. I said most likely the battery or charger is defective so I called Sanyo's Warranty Department and after describing the problem, they determine that it is a defective battery and will ship a replacement out to me.
Almost 2 weeks later, nothing.
So I call Sanyo and the first person I spoke with tells me this is a "parts issue" and gives me their Parts Department number (apparently, "Parts" is on the other side of the U.S.). So after the phone tree from h---, the woman who answers then tells me it's a "Warranty issue" and routes me back to the first number. I told her that Warranty had sent me to them but she adamantly stands her ground.
So I'm back to "Warranty" and this time, I get the absolutely rudest phone rep I've ever experienced in my life. She would cut me off at every turn and then tells me that I have to take this up with the company I bought it from. Now keep in mind I'm keeping my cool as I've always felt that getting rude gets you nowhere. She promptly hangs up on me.
I call the vendor that I got it from (a major, well-known computer company) and they too are puzzled at Sanyo's response. So the rep there tells me not to worry, she'll call Sanyo on my behalf and get this straightened out.
About 20 minutes later she calls back saying, "wow, I just spoke to one of the rudest people I've ever run into..." and tells me that she's referring this to her supervisor who will call Sanyo. A couple of minutes later the senior customer support guy tells me that he'll be calling Sanyo Customer Support, but wants me to stay on the line while he talks to them. He gets through and ANOTHER Sanyo rep puts up a major fight but the senior rep is persistent telling Sanyo that they sell their products in "good faith" and that this is clearly a warranty issue. The Sanyo rep then says that they will ship out a battery but in the meantime (it is now 3 days before my son's party), in desperation, I purchase several batteries from Amazon as a backup.
BTW, I never did receive the replacement battery from Sanyo and I will never purchase another one of their products regardless of how good they may or may not be.
