Pretty fun game and had no problem running it on my Windows Vista laptop. What a fun way to kill time at home or at the airport. Thank you for making it FREE!

I would never have known the first thing about this game if I had not come across it available for free. Of course, my expectations were not very high at all, but I figured I would give the game a shot and just remove it if it proved to be as lousy as most other free games I've tried in the past. I soon discovered, though, that Ricochet Extreme is actually a pretty fun and challenging game. I started out in Easy mode, and the further I advanced in the levels, the more I wondered what the game designers could possibly throw into the mix next. The basic concept of the game could hardly be simpler: you just bounce these little balls (which can ricochet all over the place) off of your paddle controller in order to take out a bunch of bricks on the screen. As you progress from one level to the next, though, a variety of different kinds of bricks make their appearance, and all kinds of power-ups make things more and more interesting (and challenging). You've got your fast and slow power-ups, your shrink and enlarge ball power-ups, your laser gun power-up, your magnetic ball-catching power-up, your multiple-ball power-up, and the list goes on. I can't tell you what kinds of crazy things can happen in the higher levels because I was born with some lousy hand-eye coordination genes, but I do enjoy trying to get to those higher levels.

To be honest, this is not a game I would actually purchase, even for a few dollars, but I do enjoy wasting time playing it. It is fun enough and challenging enough to appeal to children as well as adults (there are four different difficulty levels), and the graphics are actually pretty cool. I don't think I'm going to be uninstalling this little game any time soon.

Ricochet is a very solid breakout game that's been out for a while. It introduced some interesting elements later in the game with triangle bricks and some reactive and moving bricks, although after playing the later games in the series, especially Ricochet Infinity with it's recall feature and cool brick movement, I can't really enjoy playing this game very much anymore.

With regards to the "in-game advertisements", this game did NOT have advertisements in the way most people hearing the word would expect - it wasn't showing ads for other companies or products, they were never clickable, didn't download from the internet and nobody was getting paid to show them.

They were just little pictures of game logos that periodically swapped out during game play. The game's creator said he put them in for artistic purposes. The idea was that ricochet is some futuristic sport, and the little ad box was supposed to refer to the ads you see in real life on the sides of sport arenas.

Also the "advertisements" are in fact still there - it's just the little ricochet xtreme logo in the lower corner on the HUD. All that changed is they don't swap out during gameplay, probably because some people said they were distracting, but I liked it better before when they changed.

Bottom line is it's an interesting breakout game with some real depth to it if you are a true breakout fan, but if you want something faster paced and more alive, try the later ricochet games.
