RE5 is, in final review, awesome. The game itself is fun, but not particularly innovative like Orange Box... besides the 2-player mode. However, the flaw of the game is the occasional boring sequences, and more importantly, it is simply not as dark, horrifying, and scary as RE4 or some of the earlier ones. This is more of a "corporate" RE, in which they seem to have went for the 2-player mode and other features, but compromized on some of the pure terror. I think that's a fact pretty much every true RE fan will agree on. For true gamers, where RE5 shines is in the Mercenaries mode. Honesetly, my review for RE5 was a barely a 4-star, until we started to get into the Mercenaries. Again it's not perfect, but the 2-player mercenaries is a blast, and the overall graphics and gameplay is a lot of fun.

At first when the game was released back in march '09 I wasn't too thrilled about getting it as I was sorely disappointed with RE4's "over the shoulder" camera angle as I thought capcom really messed up the classic feel of the past RE games. From reading reviews and watching screenshots of the game, RE5 had the same "over the shoulder" view as well as the game fighting infected africans during "broad daylight" really turned me off not to mention a side-kick partner to assist you which would take all meaning of scare and fright right out the door. So, thinking capcom did whatever it took to intentionally or unintentionally ruin an otherwise classic, I thought the day would never come when I would play RE5. Well, I have played it and here are my thoughts...
I have played all the resident evil series but unlike the rest of 'em, this has you go through the game with an annoying and rather useless AI partner which incidentally takes most of the fright out of a survival horror game. Interestingly enough on professional difficulty the AI partner does a decent job of fending its own and not getting in your way. Remember to have infinite ammo on the hardest level-professional difficulty because ALL the enemies take alot less damage from you and will ONLY attack you and it seems they just ignore your AI partner.
QTE'S (quick time events). In one word...HATE. These were thrown in the mix and are completely out of place during playthrough and is a chore and agony to get through. Not that it's overly difficult but cuts the flow of gameplay to button mashing with whatever the onscreen prompt comes up. Hopefully in the next game, all the qte's are not included.
The controls are pretty much the same as RE4 so it's bad. You can't run and shoot nor can you run and reload hence the advantage of upgrading your weapons and getting infinite ammo. Aiming is also a pain for most of your guns except the rifles which has a scope. 3rd person aiming view is clumsy and outdated.
There were scary moments in the game but nowhere near the level of previous iterations where you go through dark places and eerie atmospheres all alone. And the fact that most of the time your fighting with your AI partner's annoying actions like blocking your view doesn't help in the fear factor. Playing as sheva is more annoying because AI chris is so big that blocking your view is more constant and frequent. It also seems AI chris is alot dumber than AI sheva.
The game took me 8 hrs first playthrough on normal and another 6 hrs on amassing a sizeable wealth inorder to upgrade all my weapons and get infinite ammo by repeating a chapter over and over again.
If you have a friend, co-op is where the game really shines. No more annoying AI partner and you can go through your favorite chapters using strategy and team work such as one being a sniper and the other close range with a M3 shottie.
Lastly, the graphics are high grade and detailed. Some people say graphics aren't important, it's the gameplay. Well, it's a relative statement however the graphical detail definitely makes playing more enjoyable.
Overall, the game does have decent replay value and was fun all the way through. Make sure you don't sell your copy of RE5 because come march 2010 DLC will be available on PSN where you get to play as jill valentine called "alternative edition" with other extras.

I didn't really play RE from the beginning. I played around with the first RE a bit, but got bored with it just because of having to conserve ammo and all that. I'm not what people would consider a 'Serious Gamer", but I like playing games none the less, I just find that the more they pack into a game, the more of a headache it is to play.
With that said, I LOVED RE4. Over all it was just well done, it was fun to play, and being able to play it over and over is a plus, I'm still playing it off and on. So I was very excited for RE5 and the day it came out I ran to get my reserved copy. While the game looks amazing (PS/3 Here) I was very disappointed in the game play. I personally find the controls VERY different from RE4 and a LOT harder to get use to. Right off the bat you are thrown into a scene where you are being descended upon by a whole mob. Good luck on doing any good with that if the controls are screwing you up. On top of that, there's another character with you that you need to watch out for which is something that I find VERY annoying. Those 2 things right there just ruined the game for me right off the bat. I only played the game for about a half hour and not getting past that first mob because I couldn't master the controls, I had enough.
I turned it off and have not turned it back on since. I have been thinking about giving it another try, but not sure it's going to be worth it. If that's the kind of game play to expect for the rest of the game I'm not sure I will be that interested in it.
I'm glad that some people liked the game, but this one was a HUGE let down to me after how much fun I found RE4 to be..

Without words, one of the best and excellent additions to the Resident Evil saga!! Way awesome graphics and very very sweet! Since Resident Evil 4, THESE ARE THE BEST GRAPHICS I HAVE SEEN FOR THE SERIES! You can customize your controller layout which is pretty good for the people used to the RE 4 controllers. My recommendation for this game is that if you are a true RE fan, don't doubt it, just buy it. Amazing and a true masterpiece to every gamers collection. But also I recommend playing RE (Resident Evil) 4 for you to know what is happening and understand the story line arc. Serious recommendations for it, I have a PS3 and it blows away everything!

Experience the thrill and terror all over again with Resident Evil 5 for PS3. Featuring Chris Redfield of the original Resident Evil and Sheva Alomar, a West African agent of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), this sci-fi survival game is staged in a remote desert colony packed with hordes of fast-moving, quick-thinking enemies that represent a whole new breed of evil.

Back from the original title and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, former S.T.A.R.S. special forces team member Redfield is a battle-tested, founding member of the BSAA. With a reputation for superior marksmanship and phenomenal hand-to-hand combat abilities, he's on the ground and up against a new strain of evil.
You'll call his shots from the same over-the-shoulder third person viewpoint that distinguished Resident Evil 4, except this time you'll also have the option of playing as his teammate, the fierce, local Alomar. Whoever you play as, updates to the earlier version's third-person control scheme offer more options and promise intuitive interactions.
Learn to Work Together
The new cooperative game play element focuses on the realities of a dual-agent mission, highlighting the ways in which Redfield and Alomar must work together to survive the unexpected, while still allowing them to split up and work alone. To help you maximize the potential of this setup, two-player online and offline co-op modes ensure that you have options when picking a partner.
Steel yourself Against the Harsh Reality of Kijuju
An advanced version of Capcom's proprietary MT Framework game engine brings groundbreaking graphics and effects to Kijuju, the highly-developed environment where this game's action takes place. New, lifelike lighting schemes highlight the differences between harsh sunlight and extreme darkness, and when you move from one to the other, you'll have to wait for your character's eyes to adjust before you can see clearly, adding to the suspense and challenge of navigating this game's environs.
Face the Next Generation of Evil
You'll face new enemies with faster reflexes and improved AI, designed to be as dangerous alone as they are in groups and to keep even Resident Evil masters on their toes. Thankfully, they're not the only ones who have evolved. This game also offers access to powerful new weapons variations that extend your destructive capabilities.
And the updated, quick-select inventory system allows for real-time inventory management, as well as allowing characters to trade items and allowing you to place an item on the directional pad for instant access. Add all this to a detailed storyline the touches on what the past ten years have meant for Redfield and a Hollywood-caliber soundtrack, and it's clear that the latest installment in this series really does showcase all the elements at the heart of horror gaming.
