The PS3 is a very good system and it's online and wifi is great. The games are all fun and the blu-ray display is nothing special if you've had an upconverting 1080p DVD player but the sound it a MILLION times better that anything in DVD-format. The games are varied enough so that when my little cousins are over I can still play fun games that won't give them nightmares. Plus, the games are in Blu-ray-rom format which means they are made like blu-ray movies in that the disks are virtually unscratchable. I had a PS2 prior to my PS3 and i hava 360 and I lost a few games to scratches from both consoles because of my little brother mistreating the games. But the PS3 games don't scratch unless you take an engraver to them. This is a really nice perk because then you don't need to keep looking for replacement games. This is a really nice perk that isn't really talked about alot.

Plenty of reviews here talk about the technological prowess of the PS3 and how it's better than its competitors' systems but few reviews focus on the frustrations that accompany purchase. So this 40+ year old, long-time gamer will with laser-like accuracy illuminate the bad.

    * The physical design of the PS3 slim is only partially desirable. While smaller footprints are good, who at Sony thinks a convex (surface rounds out)
case top is a good idea? It isn't. Most of us put these machines in our audio visual cabinet with all our other components (including
my old PS2 which I had to keep thanks to the PS3's lack of backwards compatibility) and this unit has to be on top of any stack. Also, you
can't rest anything on top of it (like controllers) after it's turned off because they slide right off. Mo' headaches.

    * The PS3 comes with an A/V composite cable!? Yes, this technological wonder of a system comes with a cable to connect to TV's from the 1980's. That's
a yellow/red/white pin cable in case I'm not clear. That will get you a 480i signal. Which means you have to buy either a Component cable (5 pins) or an
HDMI cable yourself in order to get an HD signal. Mo' money.

    * The PS3 is touted as a wonderful blu-ray player and should be the consumers' choice for getting the best that a BD can offer. That might be the case but it would help if there was a remote control included. Mo' money.

    * The PS3 tries to be a bit of a green machine and it's controller is rechargable. But the USB/USB-mini cable that connects the wireless, rechargable controller to the system is about 4.5 feet long. How many people sit 4.5 feet from their TV?! Not many, I'll tell you. That means you'll need to go out and buy yet another (longer) replacement cable in order to play games while the controller is recharging. Mo' money.

    * The PS3 software library is so-so as most people are aware of. The PS3 game prices aren't so-so. They are so-expensive. Most people thought PC games were expensive in comparison to game system software but the PS3 broke down that barrier. Most new titles are $10-20 more expensive on the PS3 as compared to the same title for a PC. Mo' money.

    * The PS3 (like all current game systems) tout multiplayer and yet they provide you with one controller which isn't family friendly. Mo' money

    * And 2 USB ports really aren't enough but mo' money won't solve that problem unless a USB hub is workable (and I haven't tried that).

So in conclusion, buy your PS3 slim and make sure you put aside mo' money.

The product is great, nothing to complain about. But I was disappointed by how Amazon treated my particular PS3 box.

The tape sealing the cover of PS3 box is severely damaged when I received my package, and looked like it had been ripped off before and stuck back.

The quick start manual inside was not bagged, looked like it was unfolded before and used. I watched a video of people sharing their newly purchased PS3s, everything in the box should be packaged in a plastic bag. Obviously that was not my case.

Although the PS3 itself seemed new, but I strongly suspect that my box had been opened before my purchase, which really worsened my shopping experience. Be aware!!

The PS3 Slim is perfect. Aside from backwards compatibility with the older systems games(PS1/PS2) being missing. This game system is an amazing amount of features for the amount of money you pay for it. Might actually compete with xbox now.

I finally got my hands on these, they look like the ps2, all in all its good, got nothing to complain about. The graphics sometimes make me feel dizzy, but I guess that's just me. I think I'm getting to old for gaming

Editorial Reviews

The fourth generation of hardware released for the PlayStation 3 entertainment platform, the PlayStation 3 120GB system is the next stage in the evolution of Sony's console gaming powerhouse. Loaded with a mix of multimedia features and functions available on earlier PlayStation 3 models, as well as a series of new advancements and refinements, the PlayStation 3 120GB system is destined to push the envelope in the realm of Next-Generation entertainment.

The PS3 logo
What's Under the Hood
As with previous models, the PlayStation 3 120GB system features an IBM "Cell" processor and a co-developed NVIDIA graphics processor that together allow the system to perform two trillion calculations per second. Yet the 120GB system manages to improve on this with its 45nm version of the processor, which although running at the same 60+nm speed as previous PS3 versions, uses less energy. This makes the unit's smaller size and quieter fan possible. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, the 120GB system also boasts an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TVs and projectors. (The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience) This console also provides for an extreme sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. Finally, it features cross connectivity with your PC network and PlayStation Portable (PSP) and its pre-installed, 120GB hard disc drive allows you to save games as well as download content from The Internet. Unlike The some other models of The PlayStation 3, The 120GB system does not offer backwards compatibility.
