Considering what you get for about [...] this is a great value. I've been looking for years to find a complete set of National Lampoon. When you could find a complete set, it was always very expensive. Now you can get the whole thing and read it and store it on your computer. It is all there; every page, article and ad! If you love National Lampoon, you'll have it now forever.
Before I bought it, I read the reviews here complaining about various problems (ie, the text was not readable, the disc didn't work, sections were missing). Because of the price, I decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did. The product is exactly as described. The whole run of the magazine on one disc. I have had no problems reading it. The disc works perfectly fine in my apple computer and it is very easy to move around in the apple "preview" program. I didn't need to download adobe to use it.
Two complaints: (1) it is just a pdf scan of every page of the magazine. Thus, there is no hypertext jumping around, for example in the table of contents of each issue. Search features are limited. Using apple preview, you can do word searches in individual issues. However, there is no feature to search all of the magazine for topics or articles. A comprehensive search feature would be nice. But I can certainly live without it. (2) Some of the scanned pages are not "perfect." Most are just fine, but you should know in advance that you are getting a bunch of scanned magazine pages, not the pristine proof pages from the publisher.
Bottom line: I'm really glad I bought it.

I enjoyed paging through and reading some of those old issues of National Lampoon, especially the ones I remembered reading as a kid when they were new. It's easy to spend an hour or more going through just a few issues.
The scans are fair at best, sometimes unreadable, but they appear to be the best that's available so far. At a $30-$35 price for 246 issues it's still a good value for me.

The contributing writers of NATLAMP would have a field day with the quality of this disk. I can see the parody now; Sweat shop, Cheney like figure slashing the whip, dirt munching troglodytes lining up to purchase the product that, though inferior in quality, is the best they could ever hope to expect according to the corporate scum that purveys the sub-standard gnosh to them.
And still... I'd buy it for my best friend. Where else can you hope to find the most insightful and raunchy screed of the era???
Thanks... It was a blast.

I gave it two stars only because of what actually WAS there. It was nice to be able to see these again without spending a month browsing auction sites. Otherwise I'd go one star or less.
This collection must have been pulled from someones basement. Many issues are missing whole segments, and I think at least a couple of entire issues are missing.
The source material looks worn and faded, and the scans are awful. Pages are misaligned and often the last few lines of text are cut off or covered by the watermark. And the PDFs are locked so you can't correct any of this.
Also the disk doesn't play on all DVD drives. I can load it on my desktop but on my laptop the autorun hangs, and none of the folders will open.
If you are feeling nostalgic, go ahead and get this, but only on sale and don't go in hoping to see your favorite bits again. They probably won't be there.
Overall this is a good idea thrown together by people who don't give a damn.

Those of us who went to college in the early 1970's surely remember the "POON!" It was far more irreverant than Mad Magazine, and when the "POON" attacked, it did it with gloves off. The National Lampoon was the Holy Grail of everything that was subversive and irreverent to the counter culture.
And now at last, those of us who loved that magazine can relive those days, albeit in a cruddy quality .pdf scan product.
We have favorite unforgettable articles, quotes and 'foto funnies' stamped into our minds from the "POON,", although to do an archive search of this disc takes on the average, a day. But it is better than nothing. Those of us who loved the "POON" have two options: One is to go to used magazine stores and online auctions to find old, faded National Lampoons or get this disc that has scans of all the old, faded episodes, then waste hours of struggle trying to find our favorite articles.
Yet, in a sense, America has outgrown the National Lampoon. Those of us who used to laugh at it's anti-establishment philosophy are now THE establishment! Most of the stuff we used to laugh about now is archaic and no longer funny. We grew up. It is interesting to note all the old advertisements in the "POON." Mostly about cigarette papers, booze, records, turntables, tape machines and high end vintage 1970's stereo equipment. (The stereo equipment it advertised now seems like dinasaur relics in this day of 15,000 song iPods in our pockets :)
So for an interesting struggle down Memory Lane, this DVD-ROM collection beats nothing. Yet caution must be observed in viewing it, lest it may cause us to "Jones" for the "good old days."
