Mark of Kri is lots of fun with some good replay value. Only five levels which don't take that long to play through but with challenges to make it interesting and unlockable arenas and outfits. Not a very popular game so I bought mine for next to nothing. Definitely worth it.

I've been really impressed with this game. It balances what it does well, from the sniping to the spiriting, and the fighting. The levels progress well with you, and there's never a feeling of impossibility as you dance around knocking the wind out of everyone. Stylistic and well done! The only real complaint I have is at the very end where you fight an unending mob. Ouch! Where most people say that this game is a mindless button-masher isn't quite true: You cannot finish the game if you do that. You really have to know what move to do when, which weapon to use. You have to have the rhythm of the game down before you end the game or your game is done--like mine was, shockingly, the first time I hit end game. After finishing the game I was left with wanting more. Haven't tried the sequel yet thanks to bad reviews, but I'll pick it up I'm sure.

This was the first stealth-action game I ever played and if your interested in playing games in this genre this is a good place to start, as it is nowhere as hard as the Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell series. The game only has 6 levels/stages (same difference). There are 5 weapons: hand-to-hand, sword, bow and arrow, taiaha (Maori spear) and battle axe. Rau, the protagonist can do combo with melee weapons that will result in a fatality if performed correctly, this however takes timing, and since the game emphasizes stealth over fighting you will probably end up button mashing and blocking in order to win fights. The last level is the only one that is not stealth-oriented and straight hack and slash, which you will do with the axe. The game has no bosses, but you usually have to defeat some enemies at the end of the level to move on the next level. I was kind of disappointed that there was no big boss to defeat at the end. It took me round 10 hours to beat this game, but there is extra gameplay if you opt to complete all the level and arena challenges.

I found the Mark of Kri to be very original. The graphics were very good for the PS2 and the fighting was fun. I found the game to be a bit short and sometimes a little repetitive. Also the environment is a little difficult with your character getting caught up on things and not being able to utilize many things. The use of the bird was unique and I liked the fact that you can train for special attacks and moves before each mission. A veteran game playing will go through this one quick, so this is probably a rental for a hard core player.

This game gets a definite thumbs-up from me. It is equally well crafted in its gameplay, graphics/sound, and atmosphere. The story is not bad for a non-rpg, though you won't get a whole lot of character development.
You are Rau, a young warrior trained to fulfill a prophecy and protect the land from a vile clan that wishes to unleash powerful dark magic. Through your quests, you develop your skills, expand your weaponry, and uncover the plot to bring about your own downfall.
The graphics are GORGEOUS! The environments you play through range from tropical jungles to ancient cities in winter. The art direction here is primo. It all seems to have influences from the barbarian fantasy genre with ancient south american/ polynesian motifs mixed in. Very cool.
Play control was excellent. The game uses a unique targeting system that allows you to quickly shift your focus during combat and even allows multi-targeting for some of Rau's wider ranging attacks. Stealth kills are also an option, allowing you to thin out the herds of enemies before they catch on to your presence. The ability to send out your bird helper is a nice touch, allowing you to plot your strategy and find a way to take out as many baddies without getting overwhelmed.
It definitely pays to learn the different melee combos and know which weapon's are most suited for a certain situations. Once you get skilled in combat, it feels good to mop the floor with a group of enemies that used to give you trouble. This game is definitely not a typical button-masher. In fact that's a good way to a quick death. So if you like combat games that require a little more thought in combat then this is a good choice.
The story is a simple one and does not involve a great deal of dialogue. In fact I don't think the main character gets any at all, which is odd considering the story mostly revolves around him. But the characters you do meet are interesting enough.
Rau's trainer could have used a different voice over though. I've heard the voice before somewhere (you'll know what I'm talking about when you hear it). It reminds me of one of those 7-foot tall smoker's voices that shout out deals in a sinister tone on national car commercials. "Get great deals on 2006 SUVs with no money down." Kinda took me out of the element when I heard him during training sessions.
Overall, I highly recommend the game. If you want a better than average combat/action game, you'll find that this is one of the better games in the genre.
