    I have been very impressed with the styling and functions of the Smartpen. The recording and playback are crystal clear. I am also impressed with the transferring of written text into a playback file. I was so impressed that I ordered a second Smartpen for the office.

    First this is a rehash of the 2g model. It's the same in all respects EXCEPT memory and color of pen.
    ______________
    If you're like me you have little time for much of everything and wanted a device that accomplished several things in an organized manner. This pen meets some of those needs but this review is not based on them, rather on its downfalls.

    1. The dimensions of the pen are rather thick and bulky for an average size female hand. I had a fellow male class mate that said he didn't like the feel at all because of its girth.
    2. Exterior surface has a tendency to roll off desk or any smooth surface. Easy ugly fix - put a rubber band around the end to create roll off friction.
    3. Ink Refill cost. This is a huge factor of dissatisfaction. I run about 15 pages of notes per week and my pen dries clean every month. I'm not an overly manic hard press writer but not a paper skimmer either.
    4. Paper cost. Of course this pen needs specialized paper but the cost is just another factor to be aware of. Yes I've attempted to make my own and have had some success - but this too has its own issues with consistency. You will need a good printer to do this.
    5. Extremely limited file flexibility. I won't belabor this -search the net for more specifics. But this is a huge issue with many users. The deletion of single pages, files and cross referencing all have serious flaws.
    6. What you see uploaded is not always what you see on paper. You're writing must have fluidity to really have use in sharing, otherwise some vertical lines do not not always show - such as make shift geometrical designs. Easy simple sketches have break spots where you don't intend them for example.
    7. Audio quality is superb in small class room settings. However open wide to a large lecture hall and forget it. It picks up everything from the snot running of my neighbors nose to the AC running in the background. A good friend has a cheap recorder and his audio quality is a great deal better than this pen in such environments.
    8. Petty, but you will get noticed when you have the earbud headset attached. There is a cool factor and a geek one. Ok, this is superficial but ought to be noted.

    There you have it. If this review helps - good and if not I hope you enjoy and have success with it. I'm handing mine off to a fellow student that likes the cool factor. It's back to old school for me; cheap generic notebook and pen with an inexpensive recorder option that can tag notes under a marker system.

    this pen has a problem with keeping time. over time, the clock speeds up. you have to keep resetting it to get the time to stay right.
    other than that, the pen works as advertised. the pen speeds up about 10 seconds per day. that's a lot of time to be off each day. also, the battery over time loses its ability to hold its charge. the battery sealed in, so you can't replace it. you'll have to replace this pen within 2 years for sure because the battery won't hold its charge.

    I just bought the 4gb Pulse Pen by Livescribe.
    The product is amazing and works perfect, either for my business meetings or for my MBA classes.
    I am trying to think of a negative atribute to the pen and the only thing I can think of is the fact that you have to be careful, since the pen is all round and will roll down a desk easily. Since I like my pen a lot I try to be very careful with this aspect.
    Other than that:
    1)The recording quality is great either for small rooms or to large conference rooms;
    2)The software is easy to install and I did not have any problem with it either;
    3)Upload time is also good;
    4)File size is not big (for the quality of the recording)

    Looking for:
    The application store (Livescribe says they will launch in december, but I am not sure). I bet we will see a lot of cool stuff to use with the pen.

    In short: If you have to take notes, for your profession or studies, this is a MUST have product.

    I highly recommend this!!
