My daughter and I were excited to open Dora saves the Crystal Kingdom and after a quick and easy installation we were exploring the bright and exciting world Dora calls home. My daughter immensely enjoyed that you could choose between Dora, Boots or a princess to be her partner in adventure.
The brightly animated world is chock full of surprises and puzzles to solve and the adventure is full of moments that encourage your child to continue the journey. Dora, who is never one to burden with too much information, does an excellent job of explaining situations and waiting to see how your child might respond. If your child is stumped by a question Dora is quick to encourage a solution in a kind and team worthy way.
My daughter enjoys playing and that was great--but even more important I think it's a well made game. The soundtrack and voice recordings are well done and easy to understand, there were no squeaky voices making me beg her to turn the volume down. The animations are smooth, easy on the eyes and funny to boot. And the challenges she is presented with please me that she is learning. The challenges range from practicing English, to the arts, math skills, hand eye coordination, and memory skills.
This holiday season if you're looking for an entertaining and educational experience for a small loved one, don't skip a beat in choosing Dora's adventure through the Crystal Kingdom.

I have another Dora program, and my granddaughter, who will be six next month, was very frustrated with it. This program, however, is one of her favorite sit down activities in the world right now - which is saying a lot. Her favorite activities in the program are the pattern and matching games, and she definitely prefers to play in the `hard' rather than `easy' range. The cool thing about that, though, is that the easy range is just about the level needed for her 2 ½ year old sister, which allows both of them to enjoy activities and be appropriately challenged. They both really like music so the memory music section is a big hit. It's got some critical thinking/problem solving activities and lots of work with numbers, letters, shapes and colors making it a terrific support to what is being learned in preschool.

The product was installed on Mac OS X. The installation was frustrating. It failed to work on a user account with parental controls enabled. Once installed it failed to work without an internet connection. So the product was entirely unusable on a computer appropriately configured for a child in this age group.
The game includes a number of puzzle sections as well as arcade gameplay. The puzzles were generally interesting although somewhat variable in terms of complexity. The game makes no attempt to adapt to the skill of the player making some games trivial to complete while others overly complex. The arcade gameplay requires the use of the keyboard for navigation which is fine as long as the child is familiar with the arcade/keyboard gameplay. The arcade levels are all the same in terms of gameplay and so tend to become boring quickly.
The game - for no apparent reason - enforces a linear gameplay until the player has completed the level. Thereafter the player can go to any completed level. This restriction is terribly silly since it means every new player has to go through the whole game before being able to go to their favorite level.
In general I would not recommend this product. You can get 10-20 games on the iPhone or IPod touch for the same cost, many of which would be more entertaining and useful for children on their own, and certainly so as a group.

My little girl loves Dora and was immediately in love this game! The graphics are good for a childs game compared to other products I reviewed with this one. It is more of a "video game" style game. Its not one that you can just skip around to different activities like most products, this one actually has levels to complete to unlock new things. Overall this is a great game! If your child is into the "video game" style of games this would be a great choice! On the other hand if your child is easily bored with games and likes to skip around to new activities I wouldn't recommend this one.

Dora Saves the Crystal Kingdom is a super cute computer games geared towards children of preschool age. The game has really bright, colorful graphics. In this game children will learn about colors, shapes, problem solving, etc.
Kids can choose between easy and hard mode and also between 3 charcters to guide them through the game, Dora gives a great explanation at the beginning of the game and at any time during game play kids can click on a question mark for help. Dora also gives a lot of great reinforcement, like good job, and great! The controls for the game were very well explained and easy to use. I think this game will be great fun as well as educational for preschoolers.
