- Is this one of the best games on the Playstation? Yes.
- Is this a huge improvement over the previous version? Not huge, but good.
Since most people rave about the game, I'll cover a few of the high points.
- The weapons are very cool and fun to use, but they don't enhance the experience much over COD4.
- The maps are beautiful.
- The Special Ops co-op mode is a great multiplayer enhancement.
What I don't like so much (SPOILER ALERT)
- Like others, I agree that the awards in on-line play are over the top.
- The PS On-line community seems too small to generate a full roster of players for on-line play.
- Campaign mode was short, but I'm actually glad about that. See the next two points.
- The airport scene from campaign mode is gratuitous and in bad taste. I have kids in my home and won't let them play this. Very Harris and Klebold (the Columbine killers).
- I am disgusted by the portrayal of the US General in campaign mode. The US military in the era of modern warfare has an exemplary record of valor. Portraying the US military as corrupt for the sake of expediency (e.g., intentionally killing allies to perpetuate a war) smacks of moral relativism. In my opinion, Activision's message is that the US Military is as bad as the Russian terrorists in the airport scene. The US Military gives their lives to save innocents. It doesn't plot to take innocent life for the sake political motives, even though innocents die when terrorists hide among them. For a first hand account of how the best of the US military lays its life down for Americans and non-Americans alike, read Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10.
Does this portrayal of the US military hack me off? Yes! It's easy for a bunch of propeller heads in Santa Monica to trash the military and I'm sure they'll sell a few more copies of MW2 because of it. However, my rating is a reflection of the gameplay, not my feelings about the commentary within.

Multiplayer lags in this game. You could unload an entire magazine on an enemy and still die because his 1 bullet hits you first even though he should be dead according to your screen. :(
I don't play these types of games for single player, playing by yourself is not exactly what I call fun, I prefer to play against real people. Modern Warfare 1 was so much fun but this one is disappointing.
Also your game is tied to your steam account so you cannot sell back the game.
The sad part of all this is that Activision are so greedy that they wasted so much money trying to block piracy and guess what? Skidrow and Razor1911 already have releases out. In reality Activision gave their loyal fans and customers a raw deal and lacking game experience to achieve nothing.
Just save your money and buy a real game.
PS if you don't believe that the multiplayer lags then just Google it, see for yourself. I used to be a Call of Duty fanboy, well I still am but I feel so cheated by Modern Warfare 2.

this is by far the worst of the worst as far as shoot-em-up games.....it should be called startrek warfare since the weapons are so unreal you need to be a 12 year old to say kewl when using them.... if your buying this as a xmas present, make sure you keep the reciept!! you will be returning it! when this game first came out, world at war dropped down to 12,000 players... within a week it was back upto 30,000 from people returning or throwing this game in the garbage! when bullets make a 90 degree turn and follow you into a building, and guns have heart beat skopes on them that can find a enemies heartbeat and show it as a different color then your teams you know this game is not for anyone over the age of 13.. .... do yourself a favor... dont waste your money on this piece of crap.. it will be the best $[...] you ever saved!

The new special ops mode allows you to experience amazing thrill on the campaign with other friends 2-4 people and it's challenging and many objectives to complete. The competitive online took 2 years to finish and it's better than ever before. Your missions take you around the world to a number of exotic locations the action is smooth and fun to go through The aggressive enemy AI will keep you active and success is hard-earned and satisfying. The campaign is pretty short and takes 5 hours to complete. A dramatic prison rescue, a marine infiltration, and a snow mobile chase makes the campaign fun to finish. The action is much faster and deadlier and there is many different guns, perks and equipments to help you as you level.
Overall 9.8 out of 10
Amazing game to play with friends
Definitely recommend it
keeps you playing for hours

Editorial Reviews
Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series.
The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs. Gameplay The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them. Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches. Special Ops Co-op Mode Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality. Key Game Features
