I'm glad I didn't spend a lot on this label maker. If I'd paid more for it I think I'd deduct another star from my review.
This is a very basic label maker with a few options that should fill the basic needs of many folks. However, anyone needing a serious machine for an extensive project will want to consider other alternatives as this machine is not really all that flexible or fast to use. Also, it goes through batteries like there's no tomorrow making the actual cost of this product much higher than what you pay at check-out!

Handy little labeler. Works for anything indoors but will not work on weather proof labels.

This little label printer is terrific - I had trouble getting it to load the tape the first time but once it loaded properly, I was able right away to create four or five labels in a flash. I'd recommend this - great for labeling those Tupperware pantry containers!

The labeler works fine and a big benefit is it uses the cheap(er) M tapes. The problem is that batteries need to be at max (by alkaline standards) and, when the alkalines degrade even the slightest amount, the labeler believes the voltage is too low and the unit shuts down. The solution is to use lithium batteries which are 1.7v at full charge instead of alkaline (which are about 1.5v at full charge). Unit works fine with lithium batteries.
Not sure why Brother went to 4 cells on the PT-80, when 6 cells were used in the PT-65. The PT-65 has no problem with using alkaline batteries, even with heavy use.

It was a great value. I only paid $12 through Amazon. Its light and easy to use initially. When I wanted to change direction of text or change font I did have to get out the manuel. It was easy to read and follow.
Despite what other reviewers have said, I've never had a battery problem. Spent 6 hours one day labeling files, never quit on me. I must have used it for 2 months before having to change original batteries.
I did find that it wastes a lot of tape. Although I found the tape at reasonable prices, 2 pk for $12. I frequently found myself trimming some of the labels with scissors. Maybe there is a setting that fixes it?
