It's nice to be able to buy genuine Brother ink cartridges for much more reasonable prices through Amazon than in the big box stores.

I always like using the manufacturer brand name ink (and not some substitute) so I buy the Brother product. It works well and prints great. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that it is pricey (like all ink for ink jet printers) and, like all brands, it is hard to get the printer to let you use it until the cartridge is absolutely empty. The companies make the printers so they sense when the ink is low and stop printing. My machine takes three color cartridges as well. I put in three new ones, that I have not used hardly at all to print color (I use almost all black only), and they still run out of ink over time. I think it is due to the automatic cleaning function. It seems obivious to me that the companies make their money on the ink (not on the sale of the original printer) and do what they can to maximize the sale of ink. I think this is true of all the companies, not Brother in particular. Brother seems to be a good brand and I like the printer and ink.

I've tried other brands that were supposed to be compatible, but they printed horribly. If you have a Brother Printer/Fax/Copier the only way to go is with Brother Ink.

This is the "official" black ink for a range of Brother printers. It works fine, but doesn't last all that long. I barely use my MFC-440CN to print, though - I use it much more often as a fax machine (sending) and as a scanner, so I don't really mind.
