got bored after about 4 hours of multiplayer with friends, shoot enemys in the face 30 times with rpgs till they die cause the rpg you have has low hit points or some crap, lots of numbers flashing on the screen all the time.

Borderlands is a mixed bag, with a generally fun game being interspersed with a number of questionable or half-finished decisions that really hamper the overall product from being something really great.

The PC version of the game suffers from being a direct port of its console brethren, such as configuration options only being accessible by editing an .ini file rather than in game menus and the menus that are in game not properly supporting the mouse wheel. The keyboard control is awkward for menus because of this, as they're obviously designed for a controller; even adding multiple ways of scrolling text or entering/exiting menus would have been fine, but it's not there. The field of vision is limited, making it a little hard to see around you well; it can be edited through the .ini files, again, but it distorts the video and makes it a little nauseating to use. On occasion, the FOV can make it a pain to examine the stats of an item prior to picking it up.

The game itself is fun enough for its action components, but the MMO-style quests are poorly implemented and the story is almost non-existent. Quests tend to have you running back and forth across wide swaths of land in order to talk to one person, or pick up one item, and can often lead to pixel hunts while you search through areas of terrain for that one item that's glowing the proper color and is interactable... they're more or less pointless aside from getting some xp and maybe an item, and the quest text is completely forgettable if not outright annoying.

Borderlands is fine for just an arcade-type experience, running and shooting and looting, but I was hoping for more depth than that and it just isn't to be found here.

Bordelands is serious fun. They have guns and more guns. The game play is in the tradition of Diablo and Serious Sam. From Diablo we have the RPG elements and the endless collection of loot which keep the game fun thorough, as we are constantly upgrading our character skills and guns as we move along the game. It's also the first FPS to match the fun I have had with Serious Sam co-op.

The game does use SecuRom which keep it from being 5 stars. To its credit, it does allow you to 'spawn' and play with 3 others friends on LAN with only one copy. Playing on a weekend LAN party with 3 buddies is wickedly fun. Beers help too :)

I have played the game for only one day. But so far I had a lot of fun on LAN and Online. Only annoyance so far I noticed is from exp leeches. I had one guy logged in as a level 1 in my game and by the time I logged off he was level 17 without firing a shot. I could not kick him out. And, I didn't want to restart the game because I found a good group. Note for LAN play, the game does not allow you to pick an IP. It will 'try' and fail miserably if you have more than one network on your computer. Just disable all your other networks before play and re-enable them afterward.

There are four classes in the game but everyone can use any weapons and there are no stats. Weapons only have level limitation. You start with 2 weapon slot and will unlock more as you play. In those slots you can equip from your inventory any of the seven types of weapons, revolver, semi-auto pistol, SMG, Assault Rifle, Shotgun, Rocket launcher and Sniper rifle. The stats on the guns are randomly generated like in Diablo. Your skill with each weapon type will improve the more you use it. The different classes have different skill tree and a unique ability. They also have a preffered weapon type with skills to improve it. As for abilities, so far the support 'turret' ability seems to be the most useful and powerful. The sniper 'attack bird' ability is underwhelming. The 'berserker' is useful for boss and pvp with its massive single target melee damage. The single girl 'stealth' ability is useful to get out of trouble and she can run really fast in that mode, useful to cover long trek. Oh, this game is all about guns so there is no armor upgrade. Just a personal force shield you can equip and HP increase as you level up.

I didn't see a difficulty level. So I guess you are limited to one play thru. They should have included a couple higher difficulties so we can play it again when we beat the game as in Diablo hard and nightmare.

Online, the latency from p2p isnt' a problem since it's a co-op game. Beside, i was either hosting online or playing on LAN so it was not an issue. Visually, it ran smoothly on all 3 of my PC with various ATI and Nvidia cards from the past couple year. There was only one bugged mission (i could not find an item from the quest) in the 20+ missions i did and no crashes after 20+ hours of play.

In summary, it's a fun Diablo FPS. Despite the loathsome DRM, if you are into PC FPS you have almost no choice but to get it since it's the only game in town for you right now. The abortion from IW isn't for PC.

SINGLE PLAYER REVIEW ONLY - This is a ground breaking game. I would go so far as to call it a new genre. I am an FPS fan but never have been into RPG's but this one grabbed me. The fact that you have to make decisions on the game, pace, direction, weapons, skills, etc that are ONE WAY. There is no "save, try this and reload" you make the decision, you live with it. I like that as it has brought a new thinking pattern to my gaming.

The graphics are VERY COOL on the level of high end comic book combined with classic animation like Heavy MetalHeavy Metal (Collector's Edition). As they say...a BAZILLION weapons and always having to choose which one you want to carry as you have limited carrying space. The choices you have to make lead to a great game experience. The landscape, the ever expanding map as you explore and accomplish tasks, the skills, weapons, vehicles, inside, outside, hidden areas.........this is a fun game.

Controls are decent, the only issue is when is run mode, when you strafe, you stop. When you tab, you stop, you cannot just keep your finer down and resume running. That and they should have added leaning.
