Ok, there are other reviews here that tell you what this movie is about, so I will not repeat them. This is fine movie making, the cinematography is breath taken and the acting well done. Ok, the psycho swords man in white may have been a little over the top- but did you see the prison cell he was in, I think I would be a nut case after being locked up in there myself. This is a Japanese sword flick, so you have to expect arterial spray, and a warrior that can slay a army. It is part of their culture to believe that a sword in the hands of a true master is unstoppable combination. Like one guy with a gun can stop a whole gang, is here in the states. The actress playing Azumi is beautiful and plays her part well. I like that they showed that the warriors had to be pushed to kill the first time. Any drill Sargent will tell you it is easy to train a soldier to kill, but it doesn't mean he will not freeze the first time he really has to do it. An assassin that questions if a target needs to die, and why is more real. Blindly excepting orders is no excuse but psych 101 tells us most people will follow authority figures, or even the crowed. The movie Azumi is worth seeing and enjoying more than once.

This is more than a must see movie. This is a must have movie. Although the fighting is pretty good what really gets you is the storyline.The storyline is original and true to its time. I have to admit I've seen the movie twice and have loved it each time. I definitely recommend it.

A group of orphans had been raised to be call-killers in nineteen-century Japan of feuds and lacking of elementary human rights, as contemporary Western viewers could understand it.

Also topic is not so new and Asian, Japanese especially, outer world-targeting cinematographic export is mostly of bloodthirsty ninjas of the past or using ultra-modern killing gadgets nowadays, a not-in-ninja reviewer would surely enjoy even a longer instalment of this story than 128 min present.

Significant distinction between this work and thousands made previously is a human touch and intelligent apprehending of own land's history native producers know, perhaps, expertly.

This questioning of the past while omitting near no issue of daily existence positions a movie outside the rest of historical stories and explains a very notion of many actions historically occurred and fictional, cinematographically-created most recently.

Highly recommended. It is a classic good enough to solely represent Japan if no movies more of and from this country to be seen afterwards.

I bought the Australian (Madman) release of Azumi and I had no idea what I'd be in for. I am glad I read no reviews or comments about the movie before I watched it, because I enjoyed it very much and I had no expectations from the film.
Azumi is a film about a group of assassins who go after people who start wars and perpetuate violence. Okay, that is something of an ironical statement, but that is what it is about. An elderly man teaches a group of young people to ruthlessly go out and kill a bunch of people who are engaged in some pretty brutal wars. Of course, Azumi is the hero and she lives to fight again.

"Azumi" is an impressive movie and it certainly entertained me!

Wicked film - fit bird, good story, great wardrobes, cool cinematography... oh and what was it? There was something else.... Oh yeah!! AMAZING FIGHT SCENES!!!

Great stuff, and great characters which you really feel for. Both me and my flat mate thoroughly enjoyed this movie!!! Recommended if you're a fan of the genre or not.
