The Magic Mouse is the best mouse made by Apple. It is easy to use and easy to connect.

Scrolling and using the new gestures is a breeze and I can now complete tasks faster and more efficiently using Apple's new Magic Mouse.

    BRAVO APPLE!

I was really worried about getting this mouse. People are say its hard to use the swipe functionality but it isn't at all.

I waited a couple of weeks before writing a review for the new Apple Magic Mouse. I wanted to make sure that initial observations did not influence my overall opinion of this device.

Having used a Mighty Mouse for the last 2 years or so, I was disappointed that I lost the ability to squeeze the sides to activate Exposé. However, I have gradually gotten used to hitting F3 on the keyboard. What I miss the most is the 3rd button functionality. What I don't miss is the sporadic scrolling behavior of the Mighty Mouse.

I have come to appreciate the elegant style and simplicity of Magic Mouse design so much that when I sit down at a Mac that still has a Mighty Mouse attached, I find it to be awkward, bulky and a bit antiquated.

The new mouse is very low profile and the top is extremely smooth but the edges are a bit sharp. I use an ultra-thin mousepad that helps keep everything down low since you can't rest your palm on the mouse as you may be used to doing. Occasionally, they way the mouse sits under my palm, I will get a right-click when I meant a left-click. If the bottom left was trimmed or flattened out a bit I think it would be even more comfortable to use.

What I have determined to be the best feature of the new mouse is the scrolling. There is nothing else like it. If you spend a lot of time going through documents or reading web pages, you will wonder how you ever lived without it and quickly forget about the features that it is missing.

What gives me hope is that I see this mouse as a blank canvas that responds to whatever the driver tells it to do. I foresee Apple adding additional functionality as the product matures. I would like to see 2-finger tap, 2-finger up/down swipe and perhaps pinching. I don't see why Apple couldn't emulate the behavior of the track pad on the MacBook Pro.

If you are on the fence, go ahead and get one. It may take some time getting used to but in the end, I think you will find that you like it very much.

This is a fantastic product - but at $129.00 it's twice the price of the product from the APPLE store. Amazon should police this a little better. Whomever is trying to sell this item for double the price, is crazy.

I recently switched from a PC to a MacBook Pro. My favorite mouse for my PC has been the Logitec MX Revolution, which has a very high profile. At first, I read somewhere that the new mouse from Apple had a very low profile which caused the reviewer to not like it.

My experience is exactly the opposite, and the reason is because the mouse is the combination of a track pad and a mouse! I don't like trackpads typically, because I like to move the cursor with a mouse. However, with the new Magic Mouse, I still move the cursor with the mouse, but actually SCROLL up and down on a website with my finger touching it's back. If the profile were any taller, this would not work as well. I also use two finger touch to go backward or forward on a website.

So, don't worry about the low profile - it's actually a plus!

Don't forget that if you have an Apple store near you, you can try it out first. And, the price here is ridiculous - it's only $69 from Apple. So I would not purchase it from this seller.

If you need to save a little more, use the search engine Bing ([...]), and search for Magic Mouse. You will find it as low as $64, and some of the merchants participate in Bing's cashback program, where you will see that you can save anywhere from 2-4% off of that price.

When I bought my MacBook Pro, I used Bing's search engine, and it showed up on on eBay, and following the link from Bing and using the "by it now" ebay process, I saved 10%. Because my MBP was a little over $2k, I saved $200. It took 60 days for the funds to be returned to my checking account from PayPal. Pretty cool.

With Magic Mouse, Apple has brought Multi-Touch technology to the desktop mouse, giving you a new and more intuitive way to interact with your computer. Just as with iPhone, iPod touch, and MacBook Pro, the Bluetooth Magic Mouse adds gestures and swipes to the usual clicks to bring more functionality and help you get more done with less effort.

Apple Magic Mouse

Beautiful Design with Seamless Multi-Touch Surface
One look at Magic Mouse and you'll know it's something special that only Apple could dream up. With a low-profile design and seamless top shell, you'll marvel at this beautiful mouse and its smooth, buttonless appearance.

It's not all looks, though. Once you touch it, you'll appreciate how good it feels in your hand. And the magic really begins when you start using it. The Multi-Touch surface covers the entire top of the mouse, and the mouse itself is the button. Scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two, and click and double-click anywhere. Inside Magic Mouse is a chip that tells it exactly what you want to do. Which means Magic Mouse won’t confuse a scroll with a swipe. It even knows when you’re just resting your hand on it.

Laser-Tracking Engine
Magic Mouse uses powerful laser tracking that’s far more sensitive and responsive on more surfaces than traditional optical tracking. That means it tracks with precision on nearly every surface - whether it’s a table at your favorite cafe or the desk in your home office - without the need for a mousepad.

Wireless Convenience with Easy Bluetooth Setup
Magic Mouse connects wirelessly to your Mac via Bluetooth, so there’s no wire or separate adapter to worry about. Pair Magic Mouse with your Bluetooth-enabled Mac and enjoy a reliable and secure connection up to 33 feet away. When you combine Magic Mouse with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, you create a workspace free of annoying cables.

And because Magic Mouse is wireless, it can venture beyond the confines of your desk. A quick flick of the on/off switch helps conserve battery power while Magic Mouse is tucked in your bag. Even when it’s on, Magic Mouse manages power efficiently, by detecting periods of inactivity automatically.

Make One Great Gesture After Another
Multi-Touch technology on the iPhone and iPod touch introduced a breakthrough way to interact with your content. Magic Mouse, with its Multi-Touch surface, does the same thing for your Mac. When you use gestures, it’s as if you’re touching what’s on your screen. For instance, swiping through web pages in Safari gives you the feeling of flicking through pages in a magazine. And scrolling with Magic Mouse isn’t your everyday scrolling. It supports momentum scrolling (similar to iPhone and iPod touch), where the scrolling speed is dictated by how fast or slowly you perform the gesture.

Give It Your Personal Touch
Maybe you want scrolling but don’t want swiping. Or two-button clicking instead of one. Whatever the case, Magic Mouse works the way you want it to work. All you do is go to the Magic Mouse preference pane in System Preferences to enable or disable features.

The ambidextrous design of Magic Mouse means it fits comfortably in your right hand if you’re a righty or in your left hand if you’re a lefty. And left-handers can easily swap left and right button functionality using System Preferences.

System Requirements

  • Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer
  • Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0
  • Existing keyboard and mouse for setup

Multi-Touch technology lets you use gestures and swipes directly on the mouse surface.
