This is a fantastic product - but at $129.00 it's twice the price of the product from the APPLE store. Amazon should police this a little better. Whomever is trying to sell this item for double the price, is crazy.

An elegant design from another galaxy. Who woulda thunk you could improve on a mouse? What's next? Will Apple reinvent the wheel?

A work of art worthy of MoMA, the Louvre, the Prado or the National Gallery ... that makes all other mice look like goofy antiques.

Hold down the key on your Mac ... swipe the "Mighty" Mouse to zoom in/out. Or you can set it up to use

This mouse - is so much better than any other mouse! I have no idea why you would buy anything else. I have been using the Logitech white Mac-Like mouse for a year and have never really liked it. Form is not nice - issues with connectivity and the wheel is starting to stick a lot. This new Mac - Magic Mouse is so perfect! Apple really got this right - it will take over the market and again - force everyone else to play catch up! Once people use this touch mouse, they will be amazed. The nice thing is - I use this for my presentations - like a hand held mouse. The only thing they need to add now is the ability to control the pointer while holding the mouse for presentations - that will be in a software update I'm sure. I can't say enough how much I like this. I bought this at Best Buy for $69 and Apple Store sells it for $69 too - I think it's priced perfect for a Blue Tooth mouse! Trust me - you will like it!

First off, let me echo the praise everyone has for this mouse: It's beautiful. It looks great on any desk. And there is a definite "ooh" factor when you show people that you're scrolling just by moving your fingers around on the sleek, immobile surface.

Now the bad news: Apple's previous mouse, the Mighty Mouse, remains my favorite mouse. Why? When it comes to scrolling, the scroll-ball was just plain better than the multi-touch scrolling on the Magic Mouse. Better than any scroll-wheel, too. Multi-touch scrolling on the Magic Mouse is less precise, less quick, and less flexible. The scrollball also doubled as a third, programmable mouse button (a feature absent from the Magic). The mouse is also missing the Mighty's Exposé buttons.

Here's the bizarre part: I can see where Apple's engineers are coming from--a multi-touch mouse means more consistency with their laptops, the latest of which feature fantastic button-less trackpads. And everyone agrees that laptop trackpads are way better than the old scroll-balls. But despite its steep price tag, the Magic Mouse doesn't even give you all of the features of the MacBook trackpad! On the MacBook, you can use two fingers to scroll either vertically or horizontally, three fingers to do page flips, and four fingers to do Exposé. The Magic, perhaps because it's only half the width of the trackpad, can only do two-finger gestures. You can choose to have left-right swipes mean either horizontally scrolling or page flips. There is no way to do Exposé on this mouse, which is a major step backward. Maybe more features will be added in future updates, but I suspect scrolling will remain finicky.

There are other gaps as well. Many users have complained that movement speed is too slow even at the maximum setting, and I agree. As of this moment, there is no support for scrolling in Windows (!), and Apple hasn't announced any plans to rectify this. And while right-clicks are supported, you can't left-click and right-click simultaneously (a flaw shared by the Magic), which can cause frustration in some games and CAD programs.

I had so much confidence in Apple's wizardry that I pre-ordered this mouse. Unfortunately, the fact is that there are better (though less pretty) mice to be found for half the price.

This mouse is awesome. It finally brings mouse gestures to the desktop. I only wish it had a gesture for activating the dashboard, but when you consider not having to deal with the maintenance of cleaning the mighty mouse track ball, it is a simple purchase decision to make.

Editorial Reviews

With Magic Mouse, Apple has brought Multi-Touch technology to the desktop mouse, giving you a new and more intuitive way to interact with your computer. Just as with iPhone, iPod touch, and MacBook Pro, the Bluetooth Magic Mouse adds gestures and swipes to the usual clicks to bring more functionality and help you get more done with less effort.

Apple Magic Mouse

  • Laser technology for accurate tracking on nearly any surface.
  • Bluetooth for simple setup.
  • Stunning ambidextrous design.

Beautiful Design with Seamless Multi-Touch Surface
One look at Magic Mouse and you'll know it's something special that only Apple could dream up. With a low-profile design and seamless top shell, you'll marvel at this beautiful mouse and its smooth, buttonless appearance.

It's not all looks, though. Once you touch it, you'll appreciate how good it feels in your hand. And the magic really begins when you start using it. The Multi-Touch surface covers the entire top of the mouse, and the mouse itself is the button. Scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two, and click and double-click anywhere. Inside Magic Mouse is a chip that tells it exactly what you want to do. Which means Magic Mouse won’t confuse a scroll with a swipe. It even knows when you’re just resting your hand on it.

Laser-Tracking Engine
Magic Mouse uses powerful laser tracking that’s far more sensitive and responsive on more surfaces than traditional optical tracking. That means it tracks with precision on nearly every surface - whether it’s a table at your favorite cafe or the desk in your home office - without the need for a mousepad.

Wireless Convenience with Easy Bluetooth Setup
Magic Mouse connects wirelessly to your Mac via Bluetooth, so there’s no wire or separate adapter to worry about. Pair Magic Mouse with your Bluetooth-enabled Mac and enjoy a reliable and secure connection up to 33 feet away. When you combine Magic Mouse with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, you create a workspace free of annoying cables.

And because Magic Mouse is wireless, it can venture beyond the confines of your desk. A quick flick of the on/off switch helps conserve battery power while Magic Mouse is tucked in your bag. Even when it’s on, Magic Mouse manages power efficiently, by detecting periods of inactivity automatically.

Make One Great Gesture After Another
Multi-Touch technology on the iPhone and iPod touch introduced a breakthrough way to interact with your content. Magic Mouse, with its Multi-Touch surface, does the same thing for your Mac. When you use gestures, it’s as if you’re touching what’s on your screen. For instance, swiping through web pages in Safari gives you the feeling of flicking through pages in a magazine. And scrolling with Magic Mouse isn’t your everyday scrolling. It supports momentum scrolling (similar to iPhone and iPod touch), where the scrolling speed is dictated by how fast or slowly you perform the gesture.

Give It Your Personal Touch
Maybe you want scrolling but don’t want swiping. Or two-button clicking instead of one. Whatever the case, Magic Mouse works the way you want it to work. All you do is go to the Magic Mouse preference pane in System Preferences to enable or disable features.

The ambidextrous design of Magic Mouse means it fits comfortably in your right hand if you’re a righty or in your left hand if you’re a lefty. And left-handers can easily swap left and right button functionality using System Preferences.

System Requirements

  • Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer
  • Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0
  • Existing keyboard and mouse for setup

Multi-Touch technology lets you use gestures and swipes directly on the mouse surface.
