I am using a HP Mini 1000 (1116NR) that came with a SSD drive but only at 16GB. The net-book is fine for light usage but the OEM SSD really IS a bottle neck. I made some features agonizingly slow. For a while I was thinking about getting a standard hard drive and swap out the SSD drive. I didn't think that another SSD drive would make much of a difference even though they claim to be faster. I opted to try one and ordered this drive unit from Active Media Products, a 32 GB, thinking that if it did not make much of an improvement I would not be out a lot of money.
Well, I ordered the drive and had it shipped standard delivery, it arrived the second day. Ok, so now to install it and try it out. First, the drive is fully enclosed except for the ZIF (Zero Insertion Force)connector, so far so good. I had some trouble trying to determine where the number 1 is on the connector cable. It is not marked anywhere, not even on the laptop.
You'll have to absolutely sure that you do not insert the cable backwards, it will go in but the outcome may not be what you want.
The ZIF connector on the drive itself is really stiff and will take extra effort to insert the cable (also make sure the small release is open on the connector). Just take your time and it will go in all the way. Make sure that you do not buckle the little cable trying to insert it.
Finally got to a point where I installed the software and started it up for the first time with the new drive. OMG, it is like a new high speed computer. I could not believe that the unit is so much faster. My normal startup time using Windows XP was in the neighborhood of 65 to 78 seconds. When I started it with the new drive it was ready to go in about 22 seconds. WOW!!! I did not expect the difference to be that much, did that please me, YOU BET!!!
Also very pleased with the quick delivery and the ease of ordering from Amazon. A great big Thanks!!!!
