I bought this cable to be used with the optical to mini-jack adapter, and it works beautifully. A digital signal is a digital signal... Unless the optical cable has a flaw within the glass itself, they wont provide better results than the other. I use it between a logitech surround sound system and my macbook pro, love it!

I used this to connect my iMac (PowerPC G5, circa 2007) to my Denon receiver (AVR-3200, circa 2000). This allows me to use my iMac/ITunes as my music server playing on my home stereo.
The output jack from iMac is a dual output (works either with standard 3.5mm audio pin or mini-TosLink connector). This allowed the music delivery to happen digitally to my Denon and using DAC of Denon, resulting in super smooth music without any loss/interference.
As soon as I connected the mini-Toslink connector to iMac, it recognized it and started putting all the audio thru that jack! Talk about plug-and-play.
This cable is worth every penny, many times over!

How in the world can someone sell this for 50 cents??? S&H brings it to about 3 bucks ---less than a Big Mac---(better for you too--but dont eat the cable--glass is not good for the digestive tract)--this thing works great!! and it is longer than most---had to take it thru my wall to hide (from wall mounted TV audio optical output to my optical input on my surround sound) works like a champ. you could spend 10 to 20 times for the same thing---but don't!!! trust me this works!!!
